Gates Mills
Hello Villagers,
As March arrives—with its mix of thawing snowbanks and the first hopeful signs of spring—it’s a great time to share a few important Village updates.
Chagrin Valley Gig: Fiber to the Home Progress
Construction for the Chagrin Valley Gig (CVG) project continues across the Village, even after February’s icy challenges. Crews are currently completing work along Chagrin River Road and Beverly Ln, with progress set to move through several neighborhoods in the coming months. CVG will soon release a simple color‑coded map showing anticipated times when each area can expect service. Be sure to see their letter in this edition of the Pink Sheet and visit the website for more details.
Aging Well Committee & Community Partnership on Aging
After months of volunteer effort and an impressive response to our community survey, the Village has formally established the Aging Well Committee, co‑chaired by Jan Bohinc and Joy Banish.
Gates Mills officially joined the Community Partnership on Aging (CPA) and you should be receiving their newsletter in the mail this month. This partnership brings expanded access to programming, social work resources, wellness offerings, and meals‑related support.
Additionally, the Committee will host monthly breakfasts or lunches with Village leaders. I’ll happily kick off the first gathering to provide an opportunity for conversation, updates, and community connection.
Dam Remnant Removal Project
The long‑planned removal of the remaining Chagrin River dam structures is moving ahead. Following the bid process, the Village will work with Davey Resource Group under coordination from the Chagrin River Watershed Partners. Work is expected to take place July–August and last approximately three weeks, including removal of remaining concrete sections and targeted bank stabilization. Some portions near the memorial rock may remain for historical and structural reasons. Residents should expect temporary lane closures on Chagrin River Road during construction.
Arboretum Restoration with the Garden Club
The Village Arboretum—created in 1935 and lovingly cared for by The Gates Mills Garden Club—is entering the next phase of its restoration. After two years of invasive‑removal efforts, the Garden Club and landscape architect Patty Crow have developed a plan dividing the site into seven planting zones with curated native wildflowers and understory plantings.
Village crews will complete tree thinning, trail improvements, and replacement of the aging steps to ensure safety and access. Once complete, the Garden Club will plant 2,200 wildflowers, a beautiful contribution to our 200th Anniversary celebration.
As spring approaches, I look forward to the renewed activity, new community programs, and continued progress across the Village.
